Project Pan/Empties 2014
Sunday, January 12, 2014For 2014, I'm going to continue chipping away at all the products I've held onto for too long (though I don't think there are quite as many 10-year-old products on this list ... maybe).
LIP BALMS, ETC.
+ C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine
This is the last of the C.O. Bigelow collection I'd amassed over the years, good riddance. I think I got this in 2009 or 2010. These things last freaking forever.
I think I got this in a two-pack at Target in 2008 or 2009. I've never really understood why it's so loved ... it totally dries my lips out! What do you think?
+ Blistex Medicated Balm with SPF 15
I got this in a moment of desperation and weakness, but it's not that bad. Just old.
I bought in Australia in 2012 ... I LOVE this lip balm -- it used to be one of my favorites as a teen, but I'm pretty sure it's got a bunch of undesirable ingredients in it.
I got this as a sample from Sephora in 2012 with my order. I like it well enough, but I really need to cut down on my lip balm collection.
LOTIONS
I bought this in early 2012 ... this is my all-time favorite BBW scent, but their lotions are not paraben-free. I've got two bottles of this.
I got this at the Semi-Annual Sale last summer, for $3 or $4 -- too good to pass up. I liked the idea of an oil moisturizer for the summertime, when lotions often can be too heavy. Unfortunately, it has a bit of alcohol in it, which dries my skin out, though it does make the skin very soft.
I got this last year after trying out a friend's, and I love that it's pretty much all natural. But over the summer, the texture kind of changed, and I'm afraid it might have gone or will go bad soon.
I got this in Australia in 2012. I'd heard so many good things about this over the years, and was in need of a dry spot ointment at the time. It's, unfortunately, made mostly of petroleum by-products.
HAIRCARE
I'm going a little lighter on the haircare products this year, because last year was kind of a failure.
This is a product that carried over from last year's list. I got this back in 2009, and it changes the texture of my hair a bit to make it manageable, but I think because it's got dimethicone in it, it dries my hair out with prolonged use.
All of my conditioners this year will be from Taiwan in 2012. Just trying to get them out of the way before they start collecting dust. This one has a lovely smell to it, like cherry blossoms. Or at least what I'd imagine cherry blossoms to smell like.
This worked a treat for a while, but with continued use, seems to dry my hair out. Too bad, because I have two of these Essential deep conditioners, after having finished one last year.
Another product from last year's list. I really don't like this product ... too much, and it leaves my hair looking like a grease pit. Too little, and it's completely ineffective. At least it smells nice.
+ MoroccanOil Treatment
I used to love this product. In fact, I'm sure I'd still love this product. I started using MoroccanOil in 2010 or so, but I found that after using it for a few months at a time, my hair would get used to it and stop reacting to it. This specific bottle is from 2011 and I figure it's about time I finished it up. It smells great, though.
FRAGRANCES
I bought these two within the same year, which I believe was 2003 ... I was in love with this scent, even more so after I discovered that it was the same one Natalie Portman used. Probably not anymore.
+ The Healing Garden Green Teatherapy body spray
FACIAL PRODUCTS
There's nothing wrong with this, really. It's just not as effective as the other types in the line.
My cousin gave this to me in 2012, and it's thick, thick, thick.
+ Olay Complete All-Day Moisture Lotion SPF 15
I bought this in 2009ish and it doesn't offer UVA/UVB protection, as far as I can tell.
This is old, old, old but it still works. I just want to use it up because it's old.
MISCELLANEOUS
I've had this for over a year now and I'm just afraid that the germies are proliferating.
I don't really like the stuff. It dries too quickly, and really accentuates dry spots. Of which I have many.
+ Garnier Light BB Instant Fairness Eye Roll-On
Another product my cousin gave me. It's really good in that it doesn't crease, but it contains alcohol and is a little on the light side.
Jane Cosmetics was my go-to brand for makeup when I was a teenager, and my go-to blush for many, many years. The last time I encountered Jane, I stocked up on their blushes -- which, at the time, were about $3.49 each. Jane is barely sold in stores now, and has jacked up their prices to boot. I just don't like that the one remaining blush I have has sparkles in it.
+ Yves Saint Laurent Touche Brilliance lip shine #16
Another product my cousin gave me. I've had this for a few years now, and it's probably going to go bad soon if I don't use it up.
+ geoGiRL EZ Eyeliner in Desert Rose
I added this product to the list at the last minute ... This is an all-natural eyeliner in a slightly metallic light pink color that's supposed to help open up the eyes. Despite being called an "EZ" eyeliner, it tugs pretty harshly. I think this line has been discontinued altogether.
Looking at it all written out like this makes it look really overwhelming. I'm getting a little nervous already about the haircare products ...
Amendment, March 23rd:
I'm adding yet another product to my list.
+ Jane Cosmetics Oil-Free Finishing Powder in Fair
This is old, seriously old. I can't remember when I bought this exactly, or for what purpose, but this was probably among the first of my cosmetic purchases outside of lip and nail products. It's still good -- I just want to use it up because it's old and I hit pan probably last year, but I've been holding onto it purely because it comes in a mirror compact that's handy.
