"Bloom," Sye Elaine Spence #MusicMonday
Monday, June 16, 2014If you're in the mood for something slightly more mellow, Sye Elaine Spence's recently released EP "Bloom" might be just the thing. There's something really unique about Sye's music -- it's got a sweet, lullaby quality to it while still giving off a rich vintage, folksy feel ... without being twee like some singer-songwriters can be. If I had to label her sound, I'd say it was Adele-meets-Corinne Bailey Rae, Americana version. Sye is from New York City but is now Atlanta-based, and she has worked as a songwriter since at least 2008.
The "Bloom" EP was, in Sye's words, "composed from stories about my young daughter and the series of events surrounding her birth. The themes explored are melancholia, self-examination, intimacy, freedom, happiness and love.”
Totaling four songs, "Bloom" is a short 13 minutes, but it's enough to lift the spirits. You can listen to it in full, from SoundCloud:
